Good evening and happy Rex Orange County Pony Day! We, the people of the Green Room are super excited about this record and wanted to dive in head fiRST. Now, if you’re looking for an in-depth album review, I suggest you check out Pitchfork, NME, or literally any other website that knows how to properly articulate their thoughts on music. My goal with this post is to give some background on the album so you can properly digest it. LET’s GOooOoOO.
Rex Orange County, or Alexander O’Connor, has always been an enigma to me. I first listened to him 2 years ago and it felt like he popped out of nowhere and immediately gained a lot of traction. His vocals are one-of-a-kind and his lyrics hit ya where it hurts (cue “Untitled,” Apricot Princess) – the perfect combo if I do say so myself!

He released his debut album, bcos u will never be free on SoundCloud in 2016 and followed up with Apricot Princess in 2017. Since then, Rex has achieved a few notable milestones including a performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, a feature in Spotify’s Rise Program, and a contract with RCA Records. Pony will be his first album released under a major label, but don’t you worry, Mr. OC is still in full creative control of his sound.
The 21-year-old wrote, produced, and recorded the entirety of the album – leaving it feeling as authentic and genuine as possible. We’re excited to see how these tracks will appear on the charts and what Spotify playlists they’ll be included in. Let us know what your favorite song is in the comments below and happy listening!
